A Metrics Information Systems, company reference in technology for the integrated management printing and packaging industries, has just received JDF (Job Definition Format) certification for management tools, becoming the first software company of Latin America to officially meet the requirements of the new protocol.
Developed by CIP4, an international consortium formed by major global manufacturers of printing technology – which Metrics has participated since 2004 - JDF allows the creation of fully automated production flows through the exchange of instructions between the management system, software and prepress equipment, printing and finishing.
The use makes possible the advancement of new applications, including the use of the Internet for direct connection between clients and their areas of printing production and management, motivating collaborative work.
Metrics has been working for years to integrate their products to the mains sector vendors, such as Agfa, Esko, Dalim, Heidelberg, HP and Kodak. With the official certification, broadens the range of companies and products that Metrics solutions can be integrated.

"With the use of more automated flows is possible to eliminate tasks, reduce mistakes and reduce the total production time while providing greater control over everything that is being produced. Normally, explains Osmar Barbosa, the information used to estimate are restricted to the commercial area, and when a sale is confirmed, the area of pre-press needs to recreate all job structure almost from beginning. "This represents a great loss of time, greater error risk and inconsistency between what was estimated and what will be delivered," emphasizes Barbosa.
With the use of the JDF standard, Metrics faced this disparity between sales and pre-press through Metris iQuote tool. "By integrating the two areas, our solution iQuote simplifies the task of estimating and brings reliability to the negotiations," continues the director. He said this level of integration extends to other areas of planning and production control, allowing managers to choose the better cost- performance processes for each job and followed up on-line the execution of each estimated lot over all process.
Metrics JDF Connector is now available as part of Metrics Printware solution.
